Date Nights

After 8 1/2 years of marriage I find that it is extremely important to place an emphasis on finding a time for date night. It becomes even more important for a relationship to find time for each other after you have kids. Kyle and I often find ourselves reminding Bronson that Mommy and Daddy need time to talk to each other because just like we love him, we love each other. He is slowly starting to get the concept that Mommy and Daddy are an "item."

In 1997 when Kyle and I started dating it was a whirlwind of emotions. It is really hard to explain the intensity of the feelings I immediately felt for Kyle. I remember telling him that I originally couldn't date him because I knew that if I started dating him I would end up marrying him. It seemed kind of crazy for a 15 year old to be muttering those words, but I knew that Kyle was the complete package and saw that he would provide exactly what someone should look for in a relationship; honesty, integrity, compassion, and genuine love. Slowly, but surely our friendship turned into something else and Kyle spent the greater part of 3 1/2 years (high school and first years of college) providing me many romantic gestures/gifts. The above picture is one of the many things that he made for me as a gift. The list of home-made items made by Kyle include, a memory box for all of our dating memorabilia, a jewelry box, this frame, key chains, and many poems. Kyle showed me a very romantic side of himself that at 15-18 years old I thought would never end. I am here to say that if I held on to the notion that romance was what made our relationship, ours wouldn't be half of what it is today.

As seniors in high school one of our teachers assigned us the task of writing letters to ourselves and to our loved ones of what we would be doing 10 years later. The teacher would then mail them out to us on our 10 year reunion. I will never forget reading the letter from my 18 year boyfriend (Kyle) the weekend before our 10 year high school reunion. The last line said, "By now you and I are living one of the greatest love stories this world has ever known." How true those words were written by an 18 year old kid in love with his high school girlfriend. The lines reminded me that even though my husband might not have the time to make me things or write romantic love poems, he remains the most romantic man I know. He is ALWAYS there for me. He never for one minute shrugs his responsibility and love for our son. He has been my rock through some of the hardest times in my life.

Kyle remains my best friend in all of the world. Last night was one of our date nights. I knew more than anything that he would love a date night that included one of his hobbies; working out. I reluctantly agreed to join him at the local gym and after a nice dinner at our favorite local dinner spot we worked out from 9-10:30. It was one of the best dates we have had in a long time. We got lots of time to talk about things that were on our hearts, cuddle on the couch, and work up a sweat at the gym. I reminded him that he is the reason I am so driven to succeed on my health journey. I want to work hard to be back to my original healthy lifestyle. We both made a few comments about the night reminding us of high school. We used to spend many nights going to the local gym to work out. It was fun to have that reminder, but to realize that after all the romance fizzles out or gets pushed to the side, what keeps a couple strong is their love and commitment to each other. Kyle, I will love you for the rest of my life.

Heartful

10mos, Bronson

Today is one of those days as a WFHM that I really wished I could just for a day be a SAHM. I miss my little boy like crazy. Four years old is such a genuine age of love and compassion. Bronson gives the best hugs and I have the best conversations with him right before he drifts off to sleep. I love the last little minutes before his eyes close that he shares with me his daily activities and engages me in his inside thoughts and feelings. My heart is bubbling over with love for my little boy. Kyle and I continue to stare across our dinner table at each other in awe of this blessing that God has given us. I feel so abundantly full of love for my son. I feel that this love that we feel for our children is just a mere glimpse of the love that Jesus must have felt for us as he prepared to die on the cross for each and everyone of our sins. The joy of parenthood has been one of my biggest reminders of God's love for me.

Shutterfly

I love COUPONS~ Shutterfly has been very generous to me this month and I finally finished all of Bronson's photobooks and have time to do a really good job on the yearly ones from this point forward. I was talking to a good friend of mine this weekend and I am happy to say that despite my obsession with taking pictures I actually do something with them too. This one reminded me of how totally adorable my baby was from 9-12 months. Sometimes I wish I had a clock to rewind.

Another Reason to Exercise

I have been walking consistently for a couple of weeks with my friend Jodie. We have a great time and I feel better knowing that I am getting my body to move at night and not just laying on the couch with a good book. Yesterday was my 2nd day since this journey to really make my body sweat. My co-worker and I started our workout off by running around the indoor gym at Western Oregon University and then followed it with an intense work-out consisting of different segments from the P90X workout. I loved it! What I love even more about the workout is that I am a really good sore today. The best part is that my net calorie intake for yesterday is -1,111. No I did not expend that many calories from my workout, but combined with sleep and normally being awake I am doing well. I think this motivates me even more to increase my exercise program.

My kid dreams about his police belt and "weapon." He even begs to bring it along for trips. Most days if you stop by my house this is how you will find him.

Breathing Support

Bronson, 1 hour old
Today is one of those days that I have to remind myself that at one point in my healthy 4 year old's life he was on life support. Without the help of Oxygen, IV's, and other medical interventions he would not have survived. It is also a day that I take a moment to thank the Lord that my son had a very minimal time on the CPAP (8 hours) and that he weaned off of nasal prongs very quickly too. I am an avid NICU/Preemie blog reader and it amazes me to see the difference in long-term health amongst those born prematurely. Not everyone is as "lucky" in regards to their children's health. I hate to use the term lucky because I do not really feel lucky, I just feel extremely blessed. I know that my fellow NICU/Preemie parents also consider themselves just as blessed. We all feel that the Lord has provided us with a very huge miracle.

I will continue to support the March of Dimes by raising awareness, funds, and advocacy as long as I am able. March of Dimes helps moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies. I strongly believe that the surfactant that I received upon arrival to the hospital is the reason that my son had very minimal breathing support. I just got done reading about a set of twins that are still on oxygen support at nearly 4 years old. My prayers go up for their family as they are now working through the stages of weaning. God is a wonderful healer. I pray for these children and ask for your support via prayer too.

Our family is marching for babies on April 28th of this year. I was just messaged that we currently hold the number #1 spot in the state of Oregon. Although I am very happy to hear this news it makes me sad that we can currently hold the top spot despite our decrease of $3000 in funds. This means that all teams are struggling to make their goals. This in returns that March of Dimes will be getting less funds this year to further their mission. Please think about supporting our March for Babies team by making a donation! No donation is too small. One team makes over $20,000 per year by getting more than 90% of their donations in $10 increments. Help us beat last year's goal! Easter 2011

Mom, are you kidding me?
I love Easter because I can celebrate the reason that I am alive and forgiven; Jesus Christ. The mommy part of me loves to dress up my baby boy and take him to church. This year for Easter we went to our incredible Good Friday Service, a wonderful Easter egg hunt at our church on Saturday, and lunch with my mom on Sunday after church. Easter dinner was done at Ann and Bill's. It seems that we have quite the tradition of dressing our son cute for Easter's past and doing eggs. Last year we had an incredible time, but kept away from church on Easter because of the cold/flu season. My sister was set to deliver any day and we had to be careful about bringing any germs. This year was an action packed weekend, but we enjoyed every minute of it. I will post some pictures later of our Easter egg hunt, but felt that everyone would want to see my little cutie pie.
